101 in 1001

The first time I saw Mackenzie Horan’s 101 in 1001 list on Design Darling, I knew right away that it was a great idea. I have been meaning to write my own for a long time, and the new year turned out to be the perfect time!

I realized while writing this that it is hard to set goals, for fear of failure. I found myself typing out a goal, then wondering, “Hmmm, I don’t think I can actually do that.” Sometimes I would change it, sometimes I wouldn’t. But why? Why am I so scared? Because I think I won’t finish it? And some strangers on the internet will hold me accountable? Or am I scared because I fear that I won’t be able to do things because I can’t. Why can’t I travel to two new countries? Why can I only read 20 books instead of 30?

Not all of these are big, life-changing things. Some are just random things that I want to do, and I have a good excuse to write them down. I never make resolutions, I instead try to set goals or have specific things I want to accomplish. Hence, this list.

Also, I only have 85 things right now. I didn’t want to pressure myself to put down things that didn’t really matter, and it was hard enough to put down 85 things that I want to accomplish (I’ve been stalling on this post for almost a week!). So, I’m giving myself room to add things- things will change in the next 1001 days and there will be new things that I want to see, do, or accomplish.

So, here it is- my list of 101 things to do in 1001 days.

  1. Awesome goals! We share many of the same goals too (moving to self-hosted WordPress…) I’m thinking about doing one of these myself! Thanks for the inspiration, I’ll be sure to link you!

    1. That’s cool that we share so many! You should definitely think about doing one, it’s a really great alternative to making resolutions, since it feels more concrete. Thanks for the link, and feel free to send it my way when you post, I’d love to share!

    1. It’s definitely never too late! And you definitely don’t have to start in January, I’ve seen 101 in lists posted every month. It takes a while to come up with things but I think it’s worth it!

  2. I think that’s a great that you started with 85! I just made it all at once and I am thinking I might change some (shh don’t tell anyone!) haha but looks like you have a great list so far! Good luck with your 101 in 1001!

    1. Thanks! I didn’t want to write things down and then take them back. And 1001 days is a long time so I know that parts of my life will change, therefore the list will change.

  3. I’ve never created a 101 in 1001 but I did create a list of 30 before 30 goals. I love this idea and really enjoyed reading some of your goals. I think it is great to have a mixture of big goals and small goals as well as fun goals and serious goals.

  5. I absolutely love that you allowed yourself some space to add more goals! Whenever I make resolutions or a list of goals for the month, I always think of one later on that would have been perfect and meaningful. I hope that you will keep us updated as you check things off of your list 🙂

  6. I have a love/hate relationship with my own 101 in 1001 list so I love that you gave yourself time to come up with the full 101. Very smart! Good luck too! xx Merisa | Monogrammed Magnolias

  7. I was immediately drawn to the Travel section, and although I’m not the biggest fan of resolutions, that is one list I can get behind! 😉 Have you done a lot of traveling yourself? I write a blog column called Travel Tuesday, where I highlight a new destination I visited. I’m currently working through a road trip up the California coast. If you’re ever in need of vacation inspiration, feel free to pop over!
