As the semester started to wind down and I had crossed off most of the items on my Amsterdam to-do list, I wanted to find things that I couldn’t do every day or in any other city. So when Rachel heard about the Amsterdam Coffee Festival, my inner coffee addict screamed “YES!”
I’m drinking a fresh cup as I write this, and you may want to grab one for yourself while you read!
Leather craftsmen making aprons.
The festival was held in an old ship-building warehouse, the same place where IJ-Hallen (the largest flea market in Europe) is held. You can read all about IJ-Hallen here, in one of my first posts from Amsterdam!
Basically, you pay an entrance fee and once you’re inside, the coffee is free. You want 4 cappucinos within an hour? Go for it. Most of the stands only offer espresso, so that you can really taste the coffee, but as someone who can only handle so much espresso, we tried to hit as many different stands and see different options.
I have no idea what any of these machines do.
In addition to coffee (and all the coffee-themed art) there were stands with chocolate, ice cream, frozen yogurt, sparkling drinks, etc., etc., etc (points to anyone who understands that reference).
I’m really not into carbonated drinks (except for champagne, of course) but these were amazing. And they support great causes!
My Amsterdam twin.
After the coffee festival, fueled by a few too-many cups of espresso, we decided to hop on our bikes and explore beyond Amsterdam…but that will come in another post!
