I am VERY excited about today’s post- I’m giving all my tips and tricks for how to plan a bridal shower!
One of my best friends got engaged recently, and as one of the maids of honor, I recently hosted her bridal shower. I knew NOTHING about hosting a shower! None of my friends/family are married yet, so I have never been to one, and certainly had no idea how to host one.
After countless hours on Pinterest and scouring every wedding website you could imagine, I think we nailed it! Whether you’re a bride-to-be or a worried bridesmaid, here’s everything you need to know to plan the perfect bridal shower!
- Figure out what the bride wants. The bride wasn’t interested in a big ordeal (this is why we’re friends), so a small gathering at my house was perfect! Some brides may want a big, catered lunch or a party at a local restaurant, so figure out what works for you and the rest of the bridal party. Which brings me to…
- Budget! Set a budget at the start of the planning process. Figure out who is paying for what, which members of the party are handling what duties, etc. You’ll find that most people will want to help out! I split duties with the other maid of honor, and let guests contribute things like drinks and snacks.
- Guest list. This can be a challenge if you don’t know everyone invited to the wedding. Let the bride give you a list of who should get an invite to make sure no one is left off.
- Decor. The most fun part of planning! This should be incorporated in your budget though, as it is easy to go overboard. There are tons of cute bridal shower decorations at Target, Amazon, or even the dollar store. We put together this Instagram-ready photo wall for less than $30!
- Games. The bride didn’t want to play any typical bridal shower games, which I was grateful for! I think bridal shower games are a bit outdated- who really wants to see what’s in everyone’s purse or make the bride sit through an awkward round of ‘Who said it- bride or groom?’ Do not feel like you have to do what is ‘traditional.’ Do what makes your bride happy!
- Choose an easy menu. Don’t overthink the menu! Unless you plan on hosting a formal, sit-down meal, having easy-to-grab finger foods, sandwiches, and snacks will make the process that much easier. If you can, prep as much ahead of time so that you can relax once your guests arrive. For our menu, we had cupcakes, mini chicken and waffles (made with Chick-fil-a nuggets!), mango tarts (in the prettiest rose design), charcuterie, caprese skewers, fruit salad, sangria, and mimosas.
I was so overwhelmed by hosting the bridal shower, even though I host people on a regular basis! My biggest piece of advice? Don’t overthink it! Your bride will be happy no mater what, so try to enjoy the day!
