Winter Hair Care

Winter Hair Care

Winter in Texas is weird. We can go from snow one day to 70 and sunny the next day. In the past week I’ve worn shorts and a coat within days of each other! While this makes it nearly impossible to get dressed in the morning, it can also take a toll on your hair. Mine can get dry when its cold and windy, and I know I’m not the only one! So today, I’m sharing a few of my winter hair care tips, along with some of my tried-and-true favorite products.

  • Dry shampoo. I know some people don’t get it, they think it’s weird to not wash your hair every day. I personally prefer to wash my hair every day, but washing, blow drying, and styling my hair takes forever, and winter weather adds a little more dryness than usual. While I still shower every day, I try to use dry shampoo every now and then to keep my hair from getting greasy and give it a little volume. I personally swear by Batiste Original and Not Your Mother’s dry shampoos, but I’ve also tried Tresemme and Suave and they’re great as well!
  • Shampoo/Conditioner. Speaking of washing your hair, I recently received L’OREAL’s new EverCreme shampoo, conditioner, and nourishing leave-in conditioner to test out, and I think they’re perfect for winter hair! They’re all sulfate-free and made my hair feel soft without weighing it down. I try not to use leave-in conditioner very often since it can make my hair feel heavy, but I’ve swapped this one out for my regular conditioner a few times and it’s been great!
  • Heat. I know heat is bad for your hair, blah blah blah, and it’s worse in the winter if it’s already dry. I try to not blow dry my hair very often, and 9 times out of 10 I let it air dry overnight and style it in the morning. I swear by hot rollers- they don’t make your hair steam up like a curling iron or straightener, and you’re not scraping a fire-hot piece of metal against your hair. Plus, they give my hair WAY more volume than a curling iron does. To keep my curls, I use L’OREAL Elnett Satin hairspray. It is the absolute best- it’s light, smells good, and it comes out when you brush your hair so you don’t feel sticky or crunchy!

What are some of your favorite ways to keep your hair healthy in winter? I rounded up a few of my favorite winter hair care (or for year-round!) products below. And Happy February, everyone!
